Historical Lecture introductory to Anatomy
The first account we have of Medicine is
Joseph's embalming the Body of his Father Jacob
in Egypt~ in all Probability he obtained this art of
the Egyptians ~ as the Jews appear to have known
little of the healing art it is probable they paid no
attention to it. at the time, or after leaving Egypt ~
finding it much easier to carry away their jewels
than the knowledge of the Egyptians -----
After this time among the Greeks the Body of man
was divided into 36 parts, supposed to be under the
governement of as many Deities - each particular part
when diseased, was supposed to be cured by invocation
to its approprate Deity-------
The application of Medicine consisted of two herbs, one
of which was adminstered to Ulyses to prevent the en-
chantement of Circe
Although some had made attempts at discoveries in the
healing art, Esculapius was honored as the founder,
and after his death was ranked among the Gods ~ He
