Description

John Burroughs (1837-1921) was an American naturalist and nature essayist. Many of his essays first appeared in popular magazines. The subjects of his essays ranged from observations about nature to his thoughts on religion, philosophy, and literature. He was a staunch defender of his contemporaries, Walt Whitman and Ralph Waldo Emerson. "Waiting," a lyric that Burroughs wrote in his youth, is one of his most well-known poems.
