A group of the Luoravetlan, or Chukchi, people, indigenous to the Chukchi Peninsula in Siberia, as well as coastal areas and islands around the Chukchi and Bering seas.
In Chukot: "Rich in Reindeer". The Russian's derived Chauchu into "Chukchi", and referred to all Luoravetlan's as Chukchi.
