Mr. Harold Noice,

City Club,

New York, N. Y.

Dear Harold:

I arrived here from the north a few days ago . Your
letter was handed to me and I must say I had to take a little time
to think it over.

I am glad to hear that you are well and that your
south American cruise did you good.

And so you have come to know, at least it seems to
me, that a smooth speaker does not necessarily mean a kind heart.
Well, whatever you do, be careful for you have a wonderful and
smooth guy to deal with in V S. And, any litigation you might bring
against him is just as likely to turn dollars into his pocket, as
out of it for it is all publicity to him and you know what that
means to him, for he has now reached that stage where publicity,
no matter how he gets it, does him good. Well, I wish you success.

I have had V. S’s letters copied and am sending you
one. Hope they are of some benefit to you. It is, as I told Mr
Rossman, I had intended to let you see the letters. There are
several paragraphs through it that calls for remarks and answers.
But to you it is not necessary as you will understand the opposite
side. Again, it would involve much time and besides I had intended
it for a better opportunity to take the time to answer it in full
detail.

I am going to stop in Ketchikan for some time. I will
be going down to Seattle possibly the latter part of . I left
the schooner at Cordova. I am in hopes to be able to get a new en-
gine in her this winter or this coming spring and fit her out good
and offer her for charter for this coming summer. If you happen to
know of anyone desiring to make a trip along the Alaskan coast,
Behring sea or Arctic ocean you might refer them to me.

Hoping you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year with best regards to Mrs Noice, I am

Very truly yours.,

Joseph F. Bernard
