V. Stefansson, Esq., Glendive, Montana, U.S.A.

My dear Stefansson,

Mr. Anderson made a hurried visit to Seattle to see Mr. Crawford with regard to the money advanced by you to Mr. Crawford, and his disbursements therefrom. Mr. Anderson's visit was helpful as he was able to bring Mr. Crawford right up-to-date in his accounts before the boys' departure and to start Mr. Crawford out properly in keeping track of expenses which may be incurred at home and elsewhere.

Mr. Knight and Mr. Crawford were very anxious to become shareholders in the Company which would identify them more closely and make it more interesting for them in knowing that they were part of the organization, so Mr. Anderson made out formal application forms which they signed. Mr. Crawford has asked for five shares and Mr. Knight ten shares, each of them giving authority to deduct from their salary each month $50.00 to apply against the purchase price until fully paid for. This course Mr. Anderson explained to them was subject to your approval. If you will therefore advise if it is in order to issue these shares, I shall be very much obliged.

Mr. Maurer paid Mr. Anderson for the shares out of which money Mr. Crawford got $200.00 in American funds as he was rather short.

Anderson has arranged with Maurer to open an account here and deposit Maurer’s salary to the credit of Mrs. Maurer in the event of Mrs. Maurer requiring money from time to time. Anderson has also arranged with the boys to look after all their mail. They have therefore arranged to have it all come addressed to care of The Stefansson Co., 614 Credit Foncier Building, Vancouver, B. C. , so that he will look after the forwarding and any other small matters personal or otherwise they may wish attended to while they are away.

Yesterday while Anderson was there one of the Seattle Reporters had an interview with the boys for the

purpose of a write up in this morning's paper, so Anderson arranged to have two copies sent here so that one could be forwarded to you to keep you in touch with things.

Everything is in fine shape and they expect to sail today at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

The Canadian Club entertained Amundsen yesterday and enclosed is a clipping from the "World". During Amundsen’s talk he said that he was taking provisions for seven years and that it was absolutely impossible to find food North of the 84th par., he instanced Nansen on the Fram who only found one half starving bear North of the 84th and this bear’s stomach contained only an old newspaper. Write me about this please some time like a good fellow.

Conditions seem to be getting better and I’m looking forward to our being able soon to get some further funds for the larger operations of the Exploration Co. next year. Please keep me posted as to your movements and plans for the trip to England.

My wife and Mr. Anderson join me in kindest regards.

Yours very sincerely,
