Dear Taylor:

Like you, I am still a little mystified
by the "Silver Wave" transaction. However, I have for-
warded you a copy of the letter I received from Crawford.

I am returnig Crawford's letter to you.
It belongs in the Company files, I think.

An intimate friend of mine who knows Lloyd
George
personally was engaged by the New York Tribune
to go to England and accompany the arms delegation a-
cross the ocean to Washington. I have a letter from
him saying that he has transmitted to Lloyd George my
message, which was merely a general statement of what
we had done about Wrangel Island and why we did it.
He says they asked him what I wanted them to do but that
he replied merely that he had no instructions from me to
ask them to do anything. Thereupon they asked him to
let me know that they had received the message.

This seems all right so far as it goes.
When this friend comes back to New York he (Frank Dilnot)
will give me more information.

Mr. A. J. Taylor,
