File F-88.

V. Stefansson, Esquire,
First Cabin Passenger,
S.S. "Empress of Scotland"
Quebec, Que.

Dear Mr. Stefansson:

-Wrangel Island-

I have your letter of May 3rd under the above
heading and note the suggestion put forward that you would
like to sub-let the island to a fur company preferably British
and still more preferably our Company, in the event that you
secure lease of same.

We appreciate the tenor of your letter and
also your desire that we should have preference in considering
the matter. The matter, however, is one which would have to
be dealt with by London and we are, therefore, sending a copy
of your letter of May 3rd together with a copy of this letter to
the Board and if you find it convenient, while you are in London,
it would be quite in order for you to take up the matter with the
Deputy Governor as you desire.

We are addressing this letter in care of the
"Empress of Scotland" at Quebec as the Canadian Pacific inform us
that the "Scotland" sails from Quebec on May 12th and that the
"Empress of Britain" does not sail until sometime later.

Yours faithfully,
Edward FitzGerald
Deputy Chairman,
Canadian Committee.
