not made you misunderstand my attitude toward things here. I was so glad
to be "in" on the Wrangel Island affairs, for of course I am deeply inter-
ested in the outcome of it. Although I was anxious to get away from New
York when that should be entirely finished, I wouldn't under any circum-
stances have gone before it was finished. Mr. Taylor has been splendid
to work with and I don’t wonder that you have a high opinion of him; he
certainly is a very good friend of yours.
From what Mr. Taylor has told me and from the fact that
you got the money for the expedition, I imagine you have accomplished what
you went to England for. I congratulate you, for I know it must have been
a hard proposition. If only Noice finds the men all right and succeeds in
getting out again this fall.
We leave to-night for Monhegan. Mrs. de Waal says it
is lovely and I know we shall have a fine time there. Thank you for
making it possible for me to go.
Sincerely,
Olive R. Wilcox
P. S. I just remembered that the next installment of the income tax
is due September 15th. It is $163. Will you send me some money for it
before that time? It seems a shame to be asking for more money when I
know $500. is on the way. Unfortunately I have to pay my salary (for I
am hard up as usual), some other bills, and if I give some to Mrs. Miller
it won't leave much. So don't forget, for the income tax must be paid
by the 15th.
