L.P. - No.8.

NoAns

Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 24th September, addressed to the Hydrographer of the Navy, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to inform you that Captain Kellett's chart of his discoveries in the vicinity of Wrangell Island has never been published, although the information which it contains was used at the time for the amendment of the Admiralty charts.

2.- After full consideration, My Lords are of opinion that it would be inadvisable at the present time for this chart to be published or reproduced, and They regret that They are in consequence unable to sanction such reproduction.

3.- I am, however, to forward to you herewith a tracing from Admiralty chart No.260, as corrected to 1849, which shows the contemporary charting of Kellett's discoveries, and is more complete for all geographical purposes than Kellett's chart itself, since the letter does........

M. Vilhjalmur Stefansson, New Court, Middle Temple, E.C. 4.

does not actually chart Wrangell Island, but only a series of bearings of it.

I am, Sir, Your obedient Servant,

Alex Flint
