Mr.V.Stefansson
New York City, N.Y.
3755 Broadway;
Dear Mr.Stefansson.
Ada Blackjack has been here and made her visit and has gone.
She came Monaday a week today and stayed until Sunday,Yesterday
the 16 th. When she first came, she said she would remain until Christ-
mas if Bennett ( Her boy) kept well but, he was in bed when she came
and she was worried. We had a letter however, from the hospital saying
he had broken out with measles and this made her feel a bit better and
then, she began to want to go home. She would feel chipper and spry
in the afternoon and seemed to enjoy her visit immensely but, when it
came to bed time, always a bit late because of company coming in, she
would want to go back to Seattle next morning and we put her off until
Sunday.
Mrs. Knight enjoyed her visit immensely and it has been a good
thing for her because she feels now that she has had first hand infor-
mation on the subject and from one who is unbiased and honest and who
has only words of friendship and pi pa praise for the boys. Their visit
was such as to bring them very close to each other and Ada seemd to
have great friendship for and confidence in Mrs.Knight and Mrs.Knight
liked her for her lady like manners and her simple good sense.
We learned that, she did not give her diary to Noice but, she
let him "take it" and also some pictures which she has asked him to
return to her and she says he took a large bundle of pictures and
films that belonged to Lorne and she feels resentment toward Noice that
he does not answer her letters when she has written him asking for the
return of her pictures. She says there was one in particular which
she took of Lorne's grave which she wanted me to have and Noice took it
also.
She says her sisters feel awfully sore at Noice for the way he
has taken her things and not shown a disposition to return them or to
get her anything for them. She has admitted that she would like to have
you have her diary when now since Noice has finished with it and,she
believes that she would get some money out of it if you had it and she
says she wants to see you when you come toSeattle but, try as I would,
she would not give an assignment of it to you because, she says that,
"Noice saved my life and he brought me from the Island to My Mother and
Bennett and I cant go against him." Loyalty worthy of praise.
I am satisfied that there is nothing to the story of the influence
of the waiter over her. His name is W.Harvey and he has registered at
one Hotel in Seattle, at least as Jack Tanana. He has evidently been a
friend to her and has assisted her to get $35.00 out of the Seattle
Times for an interview and being photographed.
