Dear Sir:

In compliance with your request of 29
March 1924 I am forwarding photographs of the papers
left in the Cairn erected on Wrangell Island in
1881 and later recovered by the RODGERS.

The only comments we have been able to
find are those made in the report of the Captain of
the RODGERS and published as an appendix in the Re-
port of the Secretary of the Navy for 1881.
