Taylor
.
Dear Mr. Taylor:
The following is a quotation from Lorne Knight's diary:
"Crawford and I have a trip all planned out to spend a winter on Melville Island. Crawford is a geologist and he has some good connections high up in the Canadian Geological Survey, and as no geological work of any importance has ever been done on Melville Island he is confident that the Government will be willing to send us there with no salary. I will state in this place that Crawford is a comer and one of the smartest young or old men that I have ever met. He tries his best to hide it, partly thru modesty and partly not to appear supercilious and a few years ago, he told me (confidentially and asked me not to repeat it) that he had won the Prince of Wales' Scholarship, the highest in Canada. And I believe him, for his knowledge bears him out. I'll put Crawford up against anyone I know except Stef."
Mr. Stefansson asked me to send you this quotation and ask him if you could find out from the Crawfords, perhaps through their lawyer, if Knight has the name of the scholarship and other facts right.
Very truly yours,
A. J. T. Taylor, Esq., Bank of Hamilton Building, Toronto, Ontario.
