Dear Mrs. Crawford:

I do not know whether I dreamed it or whether it really
happened, but I have a strong feeling that about a month ago I
received a number of letters just as I was rushing out of the Harvard
Club
. I glanced at them in a taxi and noted that one of them was from
you. Since then I have no recollection of any of these letters and am
afraid that I left them all in the taxi. I have been going through
my papers carefully without finding any such letter. If there is an
unanswered letter which you have written me, please summarize it and
write it to me again.

I have been sending you no special information about
Wrangel Island because everything of interest that has been known to
me has been printed in full by the newspapers, and I know you must
have seen them. The only news of importance is that Captain Joseph
Bernard
, who made the attempt to reach Wrangel Island, has wired me
from Seattle that he is on his way to New York by way of Denver and
that he will arrive here about December 20th. Soon after that I shall
write you summarizing any new information he may be able to give us.

As I said to you before, the men on Wrangel Island are
just as safe as if they were equally isolated on a tropical island.
There is, therefore, no more need to worry about them than if they
were in some European city or any ordinary place and were merely not
in the habit of communicating with you. In other words, the only
worries you need have for Allan are the same which he may reasonably
have about you, and his chance of being safe and well next fall is
about the same as your own.

Mrs. J. T. Crawford,
168 Walmer Road,
Toronto, Ontario.
