Mr.V.Stefansson
New York City, N .Y.
Broadway at 156 th St.
Dear Mr.Stefansson.;
Acknowledging receipt of your letter of the 20 th inst, I beg
to say.
You mention the board of Galle. Lorne said when he was here
that this would be paid for at the rate of $10,00 per week and
as he was with us four weeks this amounts to $40.00.
Regarding the matter of a loan here, I have a letter from Lorne
before he sailed from Seattle advising me that, when he was home
the last few days, he borrowed $100.00 from a friend here and
hypothecated his diamond ring for the securety, for ninety days
or,until about November 10 th. He said he had asked you to
loan him the amount necessary to redeem the loan and that you
were to send me a check for the purpose.
You will see from the above that, the matter of the $100.00 can
stand yet for some time but I am very hopeful that we can take
care of it before he forfeits his diamond. This has been a
very poor year with me and I have found myself unable to give
him the money he needed at the time when I should have been
more than glad to have done so.
You have, of course, seen the item about the Silver Wave and
I presume you have had a cable from Lorne from Wrangell Island
but, I am quoting below, the wire I received from him and hope
it may give you some information.

Of course, no comment is necessary as you doubtless have had
a like message and if not this gives you all there it to tell.
