Mr. V. Stefansson
New York City, N. Y.

Dear Mr. Stefansson;

I am simply writing you for the purpose of keeping in
touch with you so that neither of us may get any word from
the Narth w ithout the other learning of it.

I am also keeping in close touch with the Galles or,
rather, they are keeping in close touch with me.

We received a couple of cards and some photos from Galle
a week ago and a lot of his friends received cards from Lorne
which had been mailed at Nome Sept.5 th and why they were so
long in coming no one knows.

Now that Lorne is gone and actually has shown his quality
to the square heads here, the good people are getting wonderfully
interested in him and the expedition.

I presume they have "dug in" ere this and are settled for the
winter and will have a very interesting winter of it.

We keep tab on the Victoria by the shipping dispatches and
a day or two ago they were tied up storm bound off St. Michaels
and had been unable to discharge freight at that point. They
will assuredly be late in getting into Seattle so as to make
it impossible for them to make another trip this year.

We are anxious to have her arrive so that we may have a
letter from Wrangell Island which both Lorne and Galle have
promised.

Sent ck.
The time on Lorne's loan that he made here before he left
is up in another week and owing to the closeness of money and
the fall expense, I doubt if I shall be able to take care of
it but will see what can be done.

We have had a very unusual fall here and now it is like
summer and we have all the windows and doors open at home and
at the office. Have had a couple of days of hard rains for the
fall polwing and now the nice late weather for seeding.

The western papers have a good deal about Amudson's air
voyages into the Unknown Arctic next year. He is in Seattle now.

We are accumilating mail already for Lorne for next year
and if there should be anything happen in the line of change
of arrangements for sending it, we shall hope to have your
advice on the subject.
