Mr. V. Stefanssen,
New York City, N.Y.
Dear Mr. Stefanssen.
Your letter of the 18 th is just at hand and noted and I
have advised Miss Jones that she had better forget the
music box for a few months and she may do so but she is
sure to break out again when the spring days warm her
recollections of her departed hero.
As to Lorne's story.
When you were in Portland last year, about February, I be-
lieve, if you remember correctly, you asked for a copy
of it and the following day I mailed it to you.
Then, Lorne sent for another copy and it was sent him and
it has never turned up again and now I have but one copy
which I fear to let go because if it should be lost, the
jig will be up.
There were some sixteen photographs sent him by the Canadian
Minister and which, at Lorne's request, I sent to the Baron
and I am unable to recover them up to date.
I shall, indeed, be glad to have the young man you have
with you, undertake the construction of this into the proper
form for publication and wish he would see if, between
he and your own good self, you cant find the copy I sent
to you and get the pictures from the Baron.
Unless some one puts this matter into the form which will
commend it to the publishers, I shall take a vacation of
sixty days this summer and I am sure that I can put it in
the form which will make it acceptable for, I know there
is material there for a good book.
Suppose you put the matter up to your Secretary that you
have the copy some where about your plunder and find it if
possible and have him see if he cant get a rise out of
the Baron and have him dig up the pictures and then, when he
has looked over the whole affair, have him let me hear
what he thinks he can and would be willing to do with it.
Assuring you that the interest you are taking in this
matter is greatly appreciated and we often speak of your
unusual kindness toward Lorne and I assure you he does not
over look it and duly appreciates it.
Yours very respectfully;
