Minutes of Meeting held April 17th 1914

Present Councillors Jas OShanahan, Palm, Morgan Puckridge & Hartley.

Apology An apology was received from the Chairman Cr J D Bruce

Financial Statement & Estimate of Works in hand presented

Correspondence Approach Town Jetty Letter from Adelaide Steamship Co. re approach to Town Jetty being flooded. Received Overseer instructed to level up with gravel

Erection of Scaffolding Letter from R A Heath seeking permission to erect scaffolding on Footpath in Tasman Terrace. Cr Hartley } That permission be granted Cr Puckridge} Carried Cuddeford Cheque Letter from Varley & Evans re Cuddefords Cheque Clerk reported that the matter was settled as Cuddeford had been notified that payment was available at the office.

E Sullivan Rates Letter from E Sullivan re legal proceedings Cr Puckridge ) That further action be deferred Cr Hartley ) for a time to give opportunity for a loan to be arranged for. Carried.

Rubbish Tip Letter from H C Wollaston re Rubhish Tip offering to prepare the first hole if the suggested site is adopted. Cr Hartley ) That Mr Wollaston offer be Cr Morgan) accepted & the Public Notified when ready. Carried

Childrens Hospital Letter from Aelaide Childrens Hospital re Financial Assistance Cr Puckridge ) that the sum of One Guinea Cr Morgan ) be donated. Carried

Letter from Municipal Gazettes re support for the New Official Organ Received

Road Grader Letter from Norman & Co re Supplying Road Grader Clerk reported that as the Commissioner for Crown Lands had granted permission to purchase a Road Grader with A/c A Funds one had been ordered. Received

Wire Netting Loans Letter fron Surveyor General stating that no more Wire Netting Loans would be granted until instalments already due by Council were paid. Received

Mitchell Ward Petition from Ratepayers of Mitchell Ward to have 16 chains of sand metalled. Cr Puckridge ) Cr Morgan) that requested be granted. Carried Mt Drummond Road Petition from ratepayers of Mt Hope requesting that Mt Drummond Road be placed on the Main Road schedule. Received but Not entertained.

Lamps Petition re 2 Lamps for Dublin & Stevenson St. Cr Hartley pro that the request be granted. Lost Cr Puckridge Pro) That the matter be deferred Cr Morgan Sec) until next meeting. Carried

New Road Footpath Petition from ratepayers re Footpath on West Rd offering to pay the Balance of cost of same if Council would agree to expend £25 on the work. Cr Hartley ) That Tenders be called for Cr Palm ) the works. Carried

Liberal Union Meeting Letter from A G Laidlaw on behalf of the Liberal Union requesting the use of the Council Chamber for Meetings of the Female Branch of the Union. Cr Puckridge ) That the reqested be granted Cr Palm ) subject to arrangement with the Clerk for suitable evening. Carried

Road on Mortlock Petition from Mortlock rate payers re gravelling road.

Cr Palm ) That Tenders for same be Cr Hartley ) called for next meeting. Carried.

Councillors Business. F Myers Rd Cr Puckridge Prop 20 Chains be metalled on Road from F Myers Hd Kiana/ Sec Cr Morgan. Carried. Report on West Main Road Cr Morgan proposed that the Overseer be requested to report on the state of the West Main Road from the turn off on Mt Dutton Bay Road to above Lake Hamilton. Sec Cr Puckridge Carried

Pound Fees Clerk request the Council to consider the matter of whether the Pound fee of 5/- be refunded to the case of Convictions being obtained in the Police Court for Stray Cattle. Cr Puckridge ) That the matter be deferred Cr Hartley ) until next meeting & considered together with the revision of the Schedule of Charges. Carried Lighting Rotunda Clerk presented an Estimate of cost of Lighting Rotunda £10.7.6 Cr Palm ) That the matter stand over Cr Morgan ) until next meeting

Bread Act Clerk reported that he had obtained advise re the procedure in connection with prosecution for sale of Short weight Bread & found it necessary for the Council to appoint an inspector under the Bread Act. Cr Palm ) That the Clerk be appointed Cr Puckridge ) inspector under the Bread Act. Carried

Adelaide Place Cr Hartley Pro ) That Tenders be called for the Cr Morgan Sec ) forming & metalling of Adelaide Place. Carried

Louth Hill Road Cr OShanahan ) That 25 chain (10 & 15)be formed Cr Palm ) and gravelled on Louth Hill Main Road. Carried

Arrears Rates Clerk reported the amount of rates & Wire Netting Instalments still unpaid as per list Cr Morgan) That Clerk be instructed to strictly Cr Puckridge) enforce payment during the next two months. Carried Robins Petition Petition for Wire netting Loan of £28 from RT Robins Cr Hartley} That same be granted Cr Palm } Carried

A/cs Passed The following a/cs were passed for payment. Cr Morgan ) Cr Puckridge) Carried

Wire Netting Statement Clerk presented a Wire Netting Statement to Council in Committee & requested that he be remunerated for extra work connected therewith Cr Palm) That a payment of £20 be made. Cr Hartley) Carried
