Dear Sirs. I have a claim against the late Confed. Steamer Florida for damages from capture whilst serving on board Brig Clarence of Baltimore Capt. Abram Phinney master The precise dates I have lost but the time of capture is necessarily the same as Capt Phinney which I believe he has left in your hands (this first capture in Clarence) I would like to put my claim in your hands

for collection if you like to undertake it & if so Please give me what instruction you can as to the form &c. of the document Send date of Captain Phinneys Capture which will be mine.

I do not wish to go to any great expense in collecting it for the loss that I realized then I still feel.
