Unidentified location aerial, 1960s

Park Name: (Select Park Name)

Comments: : Corner of Madison Ave and Epler Ave, looking south-ish. Madison Ave is to the left. JWR Alternative school (angled school to the right) is still standing and an active school in my neighborhood. Ball diamonds are still present though much enhanced today.

Additional Information: Old Edgewood Elementary School to left, and James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School (Now JWR Alternative School) to right, in foreground, Perry Township, south side of Indianapolis. Old Edgewood Elementary School was demolished 1979, according to records from the Southsider Voice. MapIndy aerials confirm the timeline. Both schools are present on the 1956 MapIndy aerial, and the 1950 Indiana Historic Aerial Photo Index (IHAPI). Southsider Voice records indicate 1950 was the first year Riley Elementary was used. Photo is between 1966 and 1972, the empty field to the south was vacant in 1966 aerial and had development by 1972 photo.

Park Name: (Select Park Name)

Comments: : Not a park. Aerial view of downtown Greencastle, Indiana. Putnam County Courthouse is visible in the upper left corner.

Additional Information: The large apartment building in the foreground is the present-day Asbury Towers retirement community. At some point an additional wing was added to this building, forming a "C." This view is from the southwest of the courthouse square, looking northeast.

Unidentified location aerial, 1960s

Park Name: (Select Park Name)

Comments: : This is an overhead of Greencastle, IN looking toward the southeast - more specifically, this is a lot of the DePauw University campus. The up/down streets from left to right (town to campus edge) are Walnut, Poplar, and Seminary. The multiple story building just below and right of the top left corner is Delta Tau Delta. The large building below Delta Tau Delta is Spring Tree Square Condominiums. You can see Gobin Church and Pi Beta Phi in the upper middle left. Upper middle right is the iconic East College. Robe Ann Park is just out of the picture - it would be at the very top if the picture's frame continued outward.

Additional Information: I found this website after looking at ways to volunteer for IndyPL. I clicked this picture at random and lo and behold, my alma mater! :)

Unidentified location city sign, undated

Park Name: (Select Park Name)

Comments: : 1950-1951 or 1955-1958, Philip Bayt, Mayor. Highway sign looks like I-36, possibly near the old city limits on Pendleton Pike / Mass. Ave. Bud Gates Auto Sales in the background.

Additional Information: I believe this is heading west on 16th Street (if it was formerly 136?) just east of the White River and Lafayette Rd. To the right would be the current Falcone Subaru and ahead is Bud Gates Chevytown. There is a White River Trail crossing at this location.

Park Name: Riverside Park

Comments: : The structure in the background is the old Riverside shelter house which was located just west of the Park Alliance's current headquarters at 30th Street. Looks like this is during the flood of 1913.

Comments: : I found several Capital Hockey team programs that included Nash/Penn advertising

Additional Information: This is likely at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum - Nash + Pennsylvania Motor Inn was a common sponsor of the Indianapolis Capitals Hockey Team in the late 40's
