Twas but a brief space that we met,
Both full of cares, and yet, and yet,
For me, I shall not soon forget.

To quickly read and know a heart,
That is the one from little art
Of him who plays the poet's part:

And I have read all good in you,
The high, the just, the pure, the true
And therefore is it that I rue

The brief, brief space wherein we met
Both full of cares, and yet, and yet,
Believe I shall not soon forget!
