Twas but a brief space that we met, Both full of cares, and yet, and yet, For me, I shall not soon forget.

To quickly read and know a heart, That is the one from little art Of him who plays the poet's part:

And I have read all good in you, The high, the just, the pure, the true And therefore is it that I rue

The brief, brief space wherein we met Both full of cares, and yet, and yet, Believe I shall not soon forget!

And who will follow me in resting at this friendly station. Who will next [set?] his name down "a [tramp?]" in this hospitable register?

Hail friend! accept my congratulations. The [privilege?] is a delight not soon to be forgotten; thanks dear host and hostess.

How much I wish all [people?] might be able to see this well-[as--?] [house?]

So many will never know this loss. Throughout it is a place which at once elevates and cultivates. It is a privilege to be as I have been this week, through the kind courtesy of its [?] [?] hostess, [so?] [quiet?] and breathing this atmosphere of refinement and exquisite taste.

With many thoughts of my unusually pleasant stay. I shall soon depart, filled with a deep longing that the world in general was full of similar homes; but Alas: There are so many houses, so few homes.

Sincerely a friend,

Cain, the wandering Jew, the flying Dutchman, walking Stewart, Bunyan's Christian, - - shifting on asks of the one battered and wayworn pilgrim of eternity, the Tramp.

Rest here, perturbed spirit!
