23 Returning from a compaign in which the "combination" was well alluded to as the "short haired homewreckers," my pleasant [...] here has reassured me as to my own position and disposition. Not a wrecker but a conserver of such houses as this, in which the intellectual life thrives in the delightful social and domestic atmosphere growing out of relations based upon equality of rights and duties. The privilege of writing in this book revives happy, happier, happiest memories:
