Dear Mrs. Sewall, Agreeable to your instructions of Apr. 29, I at once proceded to organize to secure as good a peace meeting as I could in the time allotted, and have secured Friend's Church on Fst. Street 18 & 19. N.W. have secured a good list of speakers, have had the meeting announced in the churches and have announced it myself at the Friday meeting of the Press Club, where I read your letter, at the Suffrage Club on Thursday, and at the meeting of the Secular League yesterday, where I made a preliminary talk, and was preparing to get in newspaper notices, and to send out cards for special invitations, when a flaming announcement appears in our Washington papers stating that (over

Mrs. Marianna M. Chapman of Brooklyn Sadie American, Mrs. Emma Keith Boeth, and Elizabeth B. Grannis of New York will call a great mass meeting in Wash. for the same purpose, in Masonic Hall on May 15.

So I am wondering "Where I am at." This takes the wind quite out of my sails. Had I know it before I had made any arrangement for a meeting, I would have welcomed it, and have been glad to have joined them, but now I am perplexed, as I have not seen or heard from any of them except through the press.

Their advertisement looks as thought it had come through your order. The instructions are the same.
