Title: Letter from Charles W. Bozenta to May Wright Sewall.
Description: Count Chlapowski writes for his wife. He states that Mme. Modjeska was delighted to hear that Mme. Janauschek, Miss Georgie Cayvan, Miss Clara Morris had been invited to the Congress as representatives of the American stage. She suggests that the Italian actress, Eleanora Duse, be invited, saying that, even if she could not attend, it would be a compliment to her from American women. Modjeska had been invited to be a member of the conference committee on Letters and Arts by Mrs. R. Foster Avery. She requests some explicit instructions about the congress in Chicago. Count Charles Bozenta Chlapowski was the husband of Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska. The couple emigrated from Poland in 1876 and became pioneer residents of Orange County, California. Mme. Modjeska was one of America's most distinguished actresses in the late nineteenth century.
