My Dear Mrs. Sewall
As [Mme Modjeska] is the whole day
either at the theatre or in the library,
I take the liberty to answer in her
stead your [f---] of yesterday.
As to point first, my wife was delighted to hear
that you invited [Mxx Jana???chek,
M[iss] Clara Morris & Miss Georgia
Cayvan, and (crossed out) who are indeed represen-
ative women of the American stage
and she feels enboldened by that, to ask
you if the Committee would not
think it right & proper to invite
the great Italian actress, Eleonora
[Duke], now in America, to take part
in the [wagers]. She is not only an actress
of thhe first rank, but she is a remar-
kably intellectual woman with a
great knowledge of art. We know of
