JORDAN, DAVID STARR Oct 7 1910

October 7, 1910

My dear Mrs. Sewall:

Your kind letter met me at Southampton.

I shall spend a very few days in New York and Boston before going back to California, and I shall not have time to go to Maine in that period.

Later I shall be in Boston about November 20, to spend a month there and in Ottawa on my International Commission.

Trustees meet to organize on Nov. 29, and at that time the functions of work will be formally chores.

I imagine that those gentlemen will want to go slowly, as then an many propention before them and I do not suppose that for the first year any people not now on the payroll will be taken on. This I give no as my view but as a diagnosis of probabilities. At the same time I keep your wishes in mind, to be carefully considered by my colleagues when the time comes.

Sincerely yours

David Starr Jordan

While in Europe I visited all (but two or three) of the prominent advocates of peace. I had a charming interview with Bertha von Süttner in Vienna.
