FOULKE, WILLIAM DUDLEY
JAN 26

New York Jan 26th

My dear Mrs. Sewall

Your letters were
received and I much appreciate
the kind invitation to be present
at the dinner to Miss Anthony.
I should most certainly be
present & it would to give me
the most sincere pleasure to
[?] to the toast ['evermore?]
our [?] in public as in private
life" for the sentiment is one
in which I roundly concur
& I [?] [?] the greatest delight
in being able to do anything to show
my deep affection of Miss Anthony's
[?] services to a just cause
But the death of my father which
has just occurred will make it
quite impossible. I beg you will
express to Miss Anthony & to all those
who have charge of this merited tribute
to her that my absense will not be
due to any lack of zeal or interest.
It is a matter of [?] regret that
I cannot be with you.

Yours Wm D. Foulke
