24, John T.Moore, son of Maj'r William, came by on his way to his deposition about F[rancis].Moore dec'd will.
1, Sent letters to Ky. to Br.Wm., Benj.Taylor & Hubbard T., and Richard Woolfolk, by Reuben Taylor.
3, Reuben Taylor & James Taylor jr. went to Ky.
They expect Wm.Tomlinson to join them.

May 21, Matthew Gamble's Funeral Sermon at C.H.

Jul. 24, The Gum Spring here mentioned was on Dr.Uriel Terril's land afterwards owned by Nason, about six miles East of C.H., not far from Narrow Gauge R.R.
It is famous for an all day conference between President Madison & Rev.Mr.Leland, a famous Baptist.
When Madison was candidate for the Convention to ratify the U.S.Constitution, in 1787 or '88- The Baptists were opposed to the adoption, but Madison brought Mr. Leland to his views & he controlled or influenced enough Baptists to elect Mr.M., whose Majority was small.
If Madison had been defeated & not in the Convention, Virginia would have refused to adopt.
Gum Spring is therefore an Historic Spring- Most of the Baptists voted against Mr.Madison

27, W. and Beverly Stanard, sons of Wm., of Spotsylvania, mentioned, and a few days after, Carter, son of Wm.

28, Mr.Wm.Quatles went to look at John Langham's land East of Quarles Mt., fromerly owned by Hubbard Taylor, who sold to Mr.Wm.Taylor of Fredericksburg- He afterwards bought it for _____.
Mention is made afterwards of his selling part of it, where Cawthorn lived, to James Tsylor jr.

Aug. 17, Reuben Smith's wife mentioned(She Miss[Mildred]Glassell) married the year before(m.Dec.2.1796).

Mrs.Gaines, a sister of Judge Pendelton and mother or aunt of Gen'l.Gaines, U.S.A.
She acted as mid-wife.

The Pendletons often mentioned herein were from Culpeper.

Mr.Madison[Pesident-PFT] is generally referred to as Col.James Madison jr.

At the date of the Vol. quite a number of Taylors of my family resided in the neighbothood of Orange Co.house.

Eramus Taylor was father of Robert ("Bob") Taylor of Red Bud, as he owned the Ms.
