DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR,1798,

December,
30, Fair and moderate. I went to J.Taylor's-dined there, J.Taylor jr & wife were gone to Maj'r Moore's- Rest of the family at home.
31, Thin clouds, warm for the season. A Young Man( I expect brother of Mrs Cawthon) was here early & brought 10 dollars from Rob't Cawthon, paid it for said Cawthon's note w'ch was the balance for the Oxen he purchased- I delivered the note to the young man. I walked by J.Taylor's, to Aunt Taylor's to see Mr.John Howard,who continues very lame from the hurt he got the 17th tho' on the mend. John Taylor & family, Polly Glassell, C.P. Howard & wife were there- Capt P. Merry & Mr John Hencher came to Aunt Taylor's, the former to fix the time for surveying the land sold to C.P.Howard- C.P.Howard came with me to J.Taylor's & got some deeds out of the office. John Pendleton & family came from T.Barbours to J.Taylor's to day- Sally & Betsy Taylor, J.Taylor jr & wife, were there.

January 25, John Thomas was found dead this morning, about 150 yards from the house
March 12, Thomas Newman married Lucy Barbour, dau. of Col.Thomas Barbour and sister of Thomas, who married Mary Taylor, dau of James,the Clerk. They were married last week.
14, Mrs.Mary Willis[Lee]Madison, wife of Ambrose Madison and dau. of Hancock & Mary[Willis] Lee, died this morning.
28, Nancy, dau. of Thomas & Mary[Taylor]Barbour, & gr-dau of James,the Clerk died. Mr. O'Neill read burial service on April 1,
April 2, Thomas Bell's wife died to-day[Probably Thomas Bell jr.who died Apl.12]
7, Mr.O'Neil read burial service over Mrs.Mary Willis Madison,at Montpelier
7, Thompson Taylor & Hugh Mercer Tennant on their way to Ky.
8, Mr.Waddell preached at Court house the funeral sermon over Mrs. Mary Willis Madison.
12, Heard the Thomas Bell died lat night[He was son of Thomas & Elizabeth[Taylor]Bell.
28, Heard Charles Taylor had a son born yesterday.This was George Francis,.
30, Heard that Col.William Taliaferro died yesterday.
May 27, Rec'd letter from Bro'r Jonathan,dated in March last. Mentioned that his daughter,Susannah,married Mr.Thomas Arnold, in Kentucky.
June 25, James Taylor got home,before noon, from Kentucky
July 23, Went to Court- The people do not appear to be pleased with political matters.
October 22, James Taylor resigned the office of County Court Clerk, of Orange, and George Conway Taylor was appointed Clerk, gave bond.
