A Sonnet or Birthday sketch composed and written by Thomas
Brevard Sept. 25th 1795 and transcribed by his son John J.
Brevard March 15th, 1857.

1 Just twenty years since I was born,
This day have took their flight;
How I have been reserved so long,
A wonder doth excite.-

2 But he who brought me to this stage,
Supports me day and night;
To him alone I'll trust my age
For sorrow or delight.-

3 In perils I have often been,
And often like to fall
In dangers seen, likewise unseen;
I am preserved thro' all.-

4 To day great mercies I have found
In the world's Benefactor-
To him let praises still redound,
The only wise director

Sure I am greatly favored here,
That I am not forced to go,
To feel my makers frowns severe
Thro' rains and winds that blow.
