New Chapel - Report of Committee
The President, on behalf of the Committee appoint-
ed at the meeting of the Board on , to
consider and report upon the expendiency of erecting
a New Chapel in the Cemetery, presented the following
Report:

"The Committee have carefully examined into the con-
dition of the present Chapel and have come to the con-
clusion that, owing to its faulty construction, it cannot
be adapted to the demands of the present time without
such thorough reconstruction as would involve an ex-
pense, nearly, if not quite, equal to the cost of a new build-
ing. And, moreover, after the necessary additions and
alterations are made, they are of the opinion that it is
extremely doubtful whether a building on the limited
site of the old Chapel would answer the present needs.

They have, therefore, concluded to recommend to the
Board the construction of a new Chapel, and at the same
time, and in connection therewith a building for the
offices of the corporation. The location of these buildings
to be on or near the site of the present Well-House, near the
front entrance, and the land thereto adjoining. By con-
necting the two buildings, both can be more conveniently
and economically heated and cared for. The estate now
occupied on the opposite side of Mount Auburn Street can also
be vacated and disposed of, and the proceeds of the sale
