Statues in Old Chapel
The subject of the disposition of the Statues in the
Old Chapel was brought before the Board by the Pres-
ident, who read an extract from Dr. Bigelow's History
of Mount Auburn, giving the reasons for the selection
of the subjects of the statues. They are of the following
persons and were executed by the following artists: -

Governor Winthrop by Richard S. Greenough.
James Otis " [by] Thomas Crawford.
John Adams " [by] Randolph Rogers.
Judge Story " [by] William W. Story.

For the three first named the sum of Five Thous-
and dollars ($5,000.) each was appropriated by
vote of the Corporation, while that of Judge Story
was paid for by private subscription.

The items of cost and other expenses, as shown by the
books of the Treasurer, including the cost of the bust of
Dr. Bigelow and the labor etc., upon the erection o fthe
statue of the Sphinx, were given as follows: -
