or else that the contract should contain an agree-
ment to replace such surplus income, if so expended
to be used for the purpose of repairing any damage
that might be done to any of the Monuments or
Headstones on said Lot, and it was Voted, that
the subject referred to in said communication
and the questions raised thereby be referred to a
Committee of two to consider the matter and report.

The President appointed Messrs. Cummings and
Hutchins as such committee.

Letter from Mrs. Mackintosh
A letter 416 was read from Mrs. Mackintosh, express-
ing her thanks to the Board for its action in voting
to continue the payment of the salary of her late
husband for the balance of the year; and upon motion
it was voted that the same be place on file.

C. E. Stratton Gift of Book "Mt. Auburn"
A note was read from Charles E. Stratton, esq., pre-
senting to the Corporation a copy of a work entitled,
"Mount Auburn Illustrated", with engravings from draw-
ings by James Smillie and descriptive notices by Corne
lia W. Walter, the same forming one of a series called
"The Rural Cemeteries of America"; and it was voted that
Mr. Stratton's gift be accepted with thanks, and that
the Superintendent be instructed to deposit the same in
the Vault at the Cemetery, to be presented with the original
Plan of the Cemetery drawn by Alexander Wadsworth
