that he only held the office of Principal until his suc-
cessor was appointed. The Trustees, thereupon, while re-
ceiving his declinature with great regret, authorized and re-
quested him to proceed to Scotland as Commissioner of the
Board in order to obtain a suitably qualified person to fill
the important office of Head of the University. Dr. Cook was
unable to proceed personally to Scotland for the purpose, but
intimated, that he would in compliance with the request of the
Trustees correspond with the Colonial Committee and others on
the subject, and communicate the result.

Plans and specifications for the erection of a building
in rear of the College, as described in the minutes of the Executive
Committee of 1st February, having been prepared by Mr. John
Power, Architect, the following tenders for its construction were
accepted, Mason Work +c. Jas Stewart ($3752), and Carpenter
Work +c. Robert Fisher ($3400.)

At the close of the College Session, 27th April, 1858,
on a review of the oral and written examinations which the
candidates for the Degree of M.A. and B.A. underwent, the
Senatus agreed to confer the former honour
on,
