2. In Medicine and Law
Professors. Black Gown. Scarlet Hood with white
lining, Cap with two tassels.
M.D. Black Gown. Scarlet Hood bound on
edge with white. Cap with one tassel;
The dress of undergraduates to be Black gown
in Divinity, Black Gown with narrow red trimming
down the front in Arts, and in Medicine Black Gown,
but in this Faculty the wearing of it to be optional.
Students who had passed from the Arts depart-
ment to that of Medicine might continue to wear the Arts
Gown until graduation in Medicine, after which the M.
D. Gown, Hood and Cap were to be worn on all public
occasions.
Professors in the several Faculties were to have the
option of wearing the costume of any University at which they
may have graduated, but Graduates of Queen's must adopt
the Costume of their College when they appear within the
College walls on occasions requiring full Academic dress.
The annual Parliamentary grant to the University
of $3000 was raised to $4000 in 1859, and was
increased in 1860 to $5000. This increase was due to the
