each year to the successful competitor in the Kingston Gram-
mar School. The Trustees of the College, also, instituted Three
Scholarships of £ 10 each, open to the pupils of the Grammar
School, and tenavle for the first year in Arts in the University,
together with Ten others of the yearly value of £ 7. 10/ open to all
the pupils of the Common Schools, and tenable for two years at
what was now virtually the College Grammar School. Besides
these latter, a "Chairman's Scholarship" of £ 7. 10/ yearly, open to
all pupils of the Common Schools of Kingston, and tenable for
two years at the Grammar School, was announced to be given
jointly for two years by Thos Kilpatrick Esq, Chairman of the
Board of Trustees of the Grammar School, and Wm. Ford Esq,.
Chairman of the Board of Common School Trustees.

The Botanical Society continued to flourish under
the able and energetic management of Profesor Lawson. Its
meetings were held in the Convocation Hall in the evening
of the 2nd Friday of every month during the winter Session.
The Botanical Collections made by the Officers of the Geologic-
al Survey were places by the Director, Sir Wm. Logan, under the
Society's charge. Various Donations to the Garden, Herbarium, and
Library, were recieved from Professor Asa Gray, and a
number of others, besides gifts to defray necessry expenditure
