Carruthers.

During this year, while awaiting the result of the
labours of the Parliamentary Commission on the University of
Toronto, united action, in conjunction with other Universities,
was continued by Queen's, with regard to the misappropriation
of the public University Fund. With a view, also, to the general
elevation of the standard of a higher education, lengthened cor-
respondence was entered into with the different bodies more im-
mediately interested, in order to the Establishment of Common
Matriculation, and Graduation, examinations by a General Uni-
versity Board, at which each College should be equally represented.
Each College was in all other respects to retain its own individual-
ity and independence, and the General Univeristy Board for the
Province was to meet at the seats of the several associated, or af-
filiated Colleges.

At the close of the Session the following Degrees were con-
ferred
