commencement to his decease. They feel that they can scarcely
express too strongly their impression of the benefit which they uni-
formly derived from his wise and conciliatory counsels, and his
aptitude for the conduct of business, in their administration of
the affairs of the University; Nor can they forget the sacrifice of
time and labour which he made for six years for the good of
the Institution by consenting to act as its Principal, and Professor
of Hebrew, to the great saving of the funds of the College, and still
more to its adornment by his Christian character and example,
as well as learning, and the signal advantage of the students
under his charge."

"The Trustees further agree to transmit an extract
of this minute to Mrs. Machar, with an expression of their
sincere condolence with her and her family in their bereave-
ment, and of their earnest prayer, that she may be comforted
in her sorrow by Him who is the Husband of the widow and
the Father of the fatherless."
