of St. Paul's Church Montreal was appointed successor to the
deceased Dr. Leitch in the Principalship and Primarius Professor-
ship of Divinity. At the same meeting the Trustees resolved, that, in
order to give effect to the proposal to secure a Memorial to the late
Dr.Leitch in connection with the University, "the Chairman, the Principal,
the Revd W.M. Inglis, Revd G. Bell and Mr. Paton be appointed
a committee to further the matter, with all necessary powers to
carry out the object of the resolution, and with authority to obtain
the cooperation as well of the members of the Board as of the
Professors and members of the Church at large, with power to
add to their numbers, and it was further resolved that the
Professors and members of the Church at large, with power to
add to their numbers; and it was further resolved that the
circular letter be transmitted to the committee now appointed
with authority to issue the same, or a circular of like purport,
on behalf of the Trustees, and that the committee be instructed
to report their action to the Board from time to time."
The Son of the deceased Dr. Machar, John Machar
Esq. Barrister, and a Graduate and Fellow of the University,
during the latter part of the Session delivered a Course of lectures
on Modern History, and kindly offered to continue his services
in this important department gratuitously. The Trustees very cor-
dially accepted Mr. Machar's offer, and in the meantime
appointed him Lecturer in Modern History.
