The Judgment in the Court of Error and Appeal in the
case Weir vs. Mathieson Et al., having been given in favor of
the College. Professor Mackerras was appointed permanent Pro-
fessor of Classical Literature on 26th April 1866.
A majority of the Medical Faculty with other professional gen-
tlemen during this Session organized themselves provisionally into a
School of Medicine, with a view to incorporation by Act of Parliament
under the name of "The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Kingston." Friendly negotiations with these gentlemen took place by
conference and otherwise, and, on the application of the Royal College,
it was affiliated with the University. By this "alliance" the "close connection
between the past," and present "history of Medical Education at
Kingston" has been preserved.
