On 26th April 1866, Mr. John M. Machar resigned the
appointment of Lecturer on Modern History. The Board in accepting
his resignation, took occasion to record their sense of the value of
the services rendered by Mr. Machar, and their cordial thanks for the
same.
The revenues of the College, still of a very limited nature,
were this year diminished by a deficiency, now amounting to $1130 in
the receipts from the Temporalities Fund, and by the reduction of
interest on investments in Commercial Bank Stock.
Important additions, however, were made to the means of
usefulness of the University by the bequest from Mr. George Michie, Toronto, of $2000, the
foundation of Scholarships, donations to the Library, and the gift of
four prizes for the best Essays on appointed subjects. [Pound symbol?]500 were collect-
ed, [Pound symbol?]300 in Canada and [Pound symbol?]200 in Scotland, for the institution of two
Scholarships, One in Theology, and one in Arts, and for the erection of
a monument, in memory of the late Principal Leitch. A Scholarship of
the value of $50 for a deserving Student having the ministry in view
was also founded by Edward H. Hardy Esq. of Kingston, a member of
St. Andrew's Church there.
We may here insert the table of College fees as given
in the Calender for 1866-67:
