The want of an additional Chair in Theology had long
been felt, and the Trustees were every year more, and more, earnest-
ly desirous, that it should with as little delay as possible be suppli-
ed. For the accomplishment of this important object the Board pro-
posed to set apart the interest on the Michie bequest to aid in pro-
viding a Salary for the Professor, and, at the same time, stating the
urgent need of the addition for the benefit of the Church and College,
to apply for assistance to the Colonial Committee of the Church of Scot-
land. They also resolved to take immediate steps to obtain the coopera-
tion of friends in Canada. The application to the Colonial Committee
was accordingly made, and their reply was of so favourable a nature,
that there appeared every reason to expect, that the end
in view would soon be attained.
