and Mackerras, it was resolved, that, beginning at the date of
their occupation of the houses, their Salaries should be $1320
and $1220 per annum respectively. The house in the centre
of the building was to be fitted up as a residence for the Principal.
Donald McLean Esq M.D. received the cordial thanks
of the Trustees for a free course of Lectures given by him to the
Students on the subject of Human Physiology. A course of
twelve weekly Lectures was also given to the general public
during the winter by four of the Professors, in the Convocation
Hall, on subjects of a scientific nature, and a similar course
followed in 1870-71. The charges for admission to these
Lectures, which were well attended, was devoted by the Pro-
fessors by whom they were delivered to the improvement of
the Convocation Hall.
The first attempt, it is believed, in the Dominion of
an organized effort to extend the Ladies the benefit of superior
Education was this year made by Queen's University. The
subject was brought before the Trustees by a Communication
from the Senate of date 26th April 1870, regarding the
opening of Ladies Classes, and the Board, having taken
the matter into consideration, resolved
"1st. That it is desirable that such Classes
