The salary of the Rev. A.B. Nicholson B.A.
Asst. Professor of Classics was also increased by
$200. To meet the increased expenditure
a Committee was appointed to raise the sum of
$1500 towards the amount required. The Committee
consisted of Rev. Dr. Jardine, Robt. Campbell Esq., A.J.
Drummond, Rev. D.J. Macdonnell, Hon. A.
Morris, J. Maclennan Q.C. These gentlemen formed
two committees, one for Montreal and one for
Toronto it being understood and pledged that
Montreal would raise $1000 and Toronto $500 of the
sum. These important changes and additions
in the College were the principal events in a year,
which in other respects was marked by but little of
importance for the University. The history of Queen's
at this time was pretty much the history of efforts to
adjust the repective claims of supply and demand,
and it was a matter of great satisfaction that the
strenuous exertions made by her supporters to meet
the necessary expenditure were so sucessful.
