at the annual Spring meeting, and submitted a
set of By-laws to the Board, which was received
and approved, and the application for affiliation
was granted. The Trustees expressed their
heartiest good wishes for the prosperity of the
College and agreed to grant the degrees of
M.D. and C.M. to its students, provided they
passed the same examination as the students
of the Royal College.

During this year (1883)
the authorities of the University of Toronto
precipitated an animated discussion over the
Province by intimating that the income of the
Institution was inadequate, and that as they
saw no other source from which an increased
revenue could be obtained but the public
funds, they intended to apply to the Government
for aid. The friends of Queen's,
Victoria and Trnity Universities replied through
the public press that such a onesided solution
of the problem of the fuller development of
higher education in Ontario could not be
entertained. The Principal referred to the subject
on University Day, and more fully on
the first Wednesday in November at the
opening of the Theological Faculty
