Chancellor to represent the University, and to present
an address of congratulation.

During Mr Fleming's stay
in Edinburgh, the University of St. Andrews conferred
the degree of L.L.D., its highest honour, upon him,
in recognition of the many valuable services rendered
by him to Science and Literature, and to the Academic
Institutions of Canada," the Registrar expressing the
hope that this public token of appreciation may prove
one more bond of connection between Queen's University
over which you preside, and the University of St.
Andrews, whose Chancellor is the father of your late
Governor General, the wise and able Duke of Argyll.

The attendance of the Chancellor at
the celebration in Edinburgh necessarily involved
his absence from the closing ceremonies at Queen's
University, which were this year of special interest.

For the first time in the history of
the Dominion the degree of B.A. was granted
to women, Miss Fitzgerald and Miss Fowler
having this year completed their course, and passed
the necessary examinations for the degree of B.A.

off the Prince of Wales Gold Medal in
