this year in the Matriculation Examinations. At
the meeting of the Board of Trustees held on the 28th
of April, it was announced that the Senate had
arranged to hold the Matriculation Examinations at
the different High Schools in Ontario, in connection
with the Departmental Examinations, and also, that
private arrangments had been made with the Universities
of Victoria and Trinity College to appoint a
common Board of Examiners for the Junior Matriculations.

This was felt to be a step in the
right direction, as it at once placed matriculants at each
of these colleges on the same footing, and did away
with the necessity of dividing up the Matriculation
Work in High Schools and Collegiate Institutes when
pupils were preparing for entrance to different colleges.

At a meeting of the Council of Queen's University
on the 16th of January Mr Sandford Fleming
was unanimously re-elected Chancellor of the University
for the ensuing three years. It was to the great
satisfaction of all those interested in the matter that
the announcement of the Chancellor's third term of
office was made. It was generally felt that no better
man for the office could be formed in Canada, and
Mr. Sandford Fleming's able and unwearied assistance
during the recent crisis in the
affairs of Queen's had strengthened this
