University, would cost $20,000 instead of $7,000. It would
be better to have such a school independent of a University
but in a new country due regard must be paid to economy.
He thought all would admit that the Province spent too
little for this purpose, especially when the expenditure of
Ontario was compared with that of neighbouring states.

He showed that the establishment of the desired new
School of Science could not be objected to on the score of expensive
as the scheme proposed by the Deputation was almost equally
economical for the Government as the grant of the proposed
site to be given to Queen's in the event of her removal to
Toronto, while for the people of Eastern Ontario it was
infinitely better. The Attorney General, in replay to the
Deputation, said that he was unable at present to discuss
the points brought before him, but promised that the question
should be given immediate attention. (Q.C.J. pp.
105-8 Vol XIV.). The matter was not, however, allowed to
rest here, and on March 1st the following petition was
forwarded to the Legislative Assembly of Queen's in a succinct
form, and is here given entire.
