meeting of the Trustees, called on the 6th March, the
Principal was able to report that the minimum amount
required, had been subscribed, the subscription having
averaged from the time the Fund was commenced $1000
a day. Of the subscribers, between six and seven hundred
in number, one third were from Kingston; also between
one third and one fourth of the amount subscribed came
from the same city. The students of Queen's opened
a subscription list, which in a day or two reached
nearly $6000. Everywhere subscriptions were accomplished
by the heartiest expressions of sympathy and goodwill.

Such success was felt to be the strongest possible
evidence of the spirit of loyality which animated the
friends of Queen's, and of the kindly feeling entertained
by many who had never had any special connection
with the University. It was felt by all concerned, that
there was cause for the deepest thankfulness for the past,
and for much encouragement for the future.

Much, as the Principal pointed out in his Report
to the Board, still remained to be done. Many of the
subscribers had given for other objects than those specified
in the Statement issued in April 1887, and their contributions
could not hence be considered as a part of the
$250,000 required. It has also been decided
that $50,000 should be set apart for the
Theological Department, and as the Principal
