States, for instruction in Practical chemistry, Mineralogy,
Zoology and Civil Engineering, and that in their return
a committee of the Trustees should act with them in
drawing up plans for the John Carruthers Science Hall,
and entering into contracts for its erection and equipment.

4thly. That the Chair of English and History should be
divided into two, Professor Ferguson appointed Professor of
History, Ancient, Modern and Constitutional: and a
Professor of English Language and Literature advertised for
in Canada and Great Britain.

5thly. That a Chair of French and German should be instituted,
and a Professor advertised for. Hitherto the work
in this department had been attended by a Tutor and a
Lecturer.

6thly. That Tutors should be appointed for the next session in
Mathematics, Chemistry, Classics and in other departments
where the Senate considered them necessary.

7thly. That a committee of Trustees should be appointed to
receive applications for the new Chairs, and that the
Vice-Principal and another Member of the Staff should
be associated with it as assessors: and that this committee
should meet to take action not later than September 15th
with power to call a special meeting of Trustees, should it
be considered necessary. (See Principals Report - Trustee Book
